The first thing you need to know when going into a Find the Killer game is that people are given roles for the game and that these roles each hold certain powers that can be used. The host of the game will message out to give people their role at the beginning of the game. People without roles are declared "innocents", "peasants", or "civilians": these have no special powers. The number of roles and which roles are included all depend on the host's preferences. The list of the standard roles and their powers are as follows:
- Killer/Mafia/Murderer: Every game you play will have killers. The job of the killers is to PC the name of a player in-game they want to eliminate to the host (when the host asks!!). The killers should be aiming for the good guys, especially those with roles and those who can kill them.
- Nurse/Doctor/Medic: The nurse(s) will have the opportunity to save a player who has been killed by the murderers. The nurse may not always save a player if they're worried that this player could secretly be a mafia member who was accidentally killed by another mafia, or if this player has a role that could also threaten the nurse.
- Cop/Sherrif: The cop(s) will "suspect" people as being the murderer(s). It will then be put up to a vote as the players decide whether or not they think the player is the killer.
- Commander: I will preface this by saying that typically the only people who like this role are the ones who are it. Each round, the commander will get to "say a command" that can cause a lot of people to die. For example; "everyone wearing jeans dies", "everyone with long hair dies", "everyone who has a role must wear red", "everyone not wearing shoes dies", etc. This role is basically a god and the only thing that can stop them is if they are killed before they get a chance to wipe out half the players.
- Ghost: When the ghost dies, they get to decide on another player to take to the grave with them.
- Slender: Slender gets a guaranteed kill on anyone they want.
- Witch: The witch gets to resurrect a player from the dead, typically after finding out their role! The player they bring back is protected for the next two rounds.
- Cupid: This role gets to pair together two players. If one of these players dies, so does the other. They come as a package deal.

Knowing and understanding the roles is the key to understanding the game. If you're still not sure about, try playing a few games; the more you play, the more it'll make sense.
Here are some basic tips which should help you during a game:
#1 ) You're basically trying to convince everyone you're a civilian; you don't want the good guys to suspect you as being a murderer but you also don't want the murderers to know whether or not you have a role.
#2 ) Try not to be too trusting. Everyone wants the prize and friends will definitely lie to get it! But, don't get too frustrated. It's only a game within a game (game-ception) and if you're upset with the turnout just try again.
# 3 ) If you have a role, answering the host's PC as quickly as possible. People do not enjoy waiting around for the nurse to decide who they want to save. Be considerate.
REMINDER: Not every round of Find the Killer will have the same roles or same set of rules. Be sure to listen to the host when they call out which roles will be involved in the game you're playing so you know what's going on.
Thank you for reading! I hope this post will help you enjoy Find the Killer.
